Are You Ready to Explore Therapy This Year?

Are You Ready to Explore Therapy This Year?

By Julia Salerno, M.S., LAC

Are you thinking about starting therapy but feel hesitant in moving forward?

Maybe you are worried about the timing or aren’t sure how to find a therapist.

Maybe you’re worried about what other people would think or say.

Perhaps you just aren’t sure if therapy is right for you or if therapy will be beneficial.

All you know is that you are tired of convincing yourself that you ‘don’t really need’ therapy or that you ‘don’t have it bad enough’.

You feel that you have reached a space of curiosity with therapy and what the therapeutic experience has to offer. And what a wonderful time to be considering therapy, as we just started a New Year! You have 12 months ahead of you to really dive in and explore yourself on a deeper, more curious level.

Whether you want to work on managing your anxiety, tackling your depression, learn how to feel comfortable in your body, process trauma or just find a sense of inner peace and freedom, you don’t need to be going through a crisis to start therapy! You can start at any time. You can work with a therapist at your own pace to find ways to prevent or cope with issues that arise, explore what makes you the authentic you and even feel more comfortable and connected to who you truly are.

And, I completely understand, it is a lot easier said than done when it comes to jumping into therapy. There can be and is hesitancy with beginning the therapeutic journey for many.  And listen, that is completely okay and normal, because it can take some of us time to get comfortable with the idea of talking to someone about the deepest parts of ourselves, the parts that we are so used to easily concealing and hiding.

I want you to encourage you to pause for a moment and take a look at this list below. Does anything specific speak to you?

Reasons To Explore Therapy

  • To build awareness around Self

  • To understand your authentic Self more

  • To add to your support system

  • To confront your parts and heal old wounds

  • To find a place where you won’t be judge

  • To explore and be vulnerable

  • To heal

  • To feel like yourself again

If so, maybe exploring therapy and addressing your parts may be beneficial. Maybe, this is your year to explore your parts, to heal your relationship with your body, tackle your anxiety, learn coping skills, heal from past trauma(s) and really get to know your parts through a different lens so you can finally feel like your most authentic Self.

So, I am curious, what part of you is stopping you from exploring therapy and truly healing this New Year?
